When the socio-political concerns of an artist address global issues, there's a risk of them becoming meaningless information bytes. Alternatively, important statements delivered at the local level have considerable potential to be confrontational and genuinely transformative. This work was created as part of a series to support awareness and community protest against proposals to build an aluminium smelter near the ecologically and culturally significant northern headland of Otago Harbour. The black window's a metaphor for the soul, and the inward searching required to ensure justice and equality in the social and environmental domains. Auction estimate (AU$18,000-$26,000).
