A small but iconic painting from this New Zealand artist of international status. The composition's minimally sparse with it's waterfall represented in softly modelled umber tones against the restrained dark background. The strong sense of movement's enhanced by directional brushstrokes and a protocol of allowing nothing unnecessary to weaken the concept. Apparently painted during a difficult time, the symbolism of the waterfall was one of rejuvenation and renewal of energy. Completed in 1964, the current estimate (NZ $40,000-60,000) may appeal to collectors seeking a significant work on a modest budget.
